Greetings everyone,

It’s a pleasure to be reconnecting with you all. Today, I’m excited to unveil my newest concept design for Truecaller, inspired by Android’s cutting-edge Material You Design System. I’m eager to hear your thoughts and hope you enjoy it as much as I do! 😋

Truecaller launched Themes in September 2021

“Do you all remember the Truecaller themes? I certainly do. I was absolutely enamored with them. They were quite exceptional for their time, especially considering it was one of the few apps that offered such a theming feature. I felt a tinge of sadness when Truecaller decided to do away with this option. Recently, I’ve been thinking — now that Android’s Material You supports theming, why not consider a redesign of the app using this fresh design system?”

Before we start I would like you to download a HQ screenshot of my design. DOWNLOAD NOW

1. Calls history screen

While working on this screen, I decided to deviate a bit from the standard Material You design guidelines. I adjusted the search bar’s shape, introduced a background rectangle, and refined the corner radius for a more polished appearance.

Instead of distinguishing between two user types as ‘1. Truecaller user’ and ‘2. Verified User,’ I streamlined it into one category. If a user is verified, they’ll be marked with a ‘True’ badge on their picture; otherwise, it won’t appear.

Additionally, I enlarged the ‘Dial’ button. This modification is aimed at helping users who might be unfamiliar with its functionality. Thanks to the Material You design system, it provides a smooth transition into the new navigation bar design, making it more intuitive for everyone.

2. Saved contacts and favorite contacts

It may be a little confusing to understand because it looks the same as the Calls history tab design but little more changes in this design and made it look different.

3. User Profile

In this screen, I incorporated adjustments from my earlier version of the Truecaller design. Previously, the icons were slightly wider, but in this new design, they have been transformed into circular shapes. Regarding job profiles, Truecaller now updates information for a majority of companies in their system. If a person searches for their company and it appears in the results, the company logo will be automatically displayed on their profile.

4. Businesses and spam profile

In the case of a business registered with Truecaller, users will encounter a custom-themed logo as the profile picture. Simultaneously, the original logo will be displayed in the tabs. This setup not only provides users with a visual identity but also ensures easy access to the company website, a feature that can prove highly beneficial in certain situations.

5. Smart SMS highlights

I personally don’t use this feature much, but it’s quite helpful. It could truly be a masterpiece if integrated with businesses. Take Zomato for example. If I place an order, I receive a notification in the app. However, if I happen to close the app for any reason, I wouldn’t want to keep reopening it every 30–40 minutes to check for updates. If Truecaller were integrated with Zomato, it could display real-time notifications in the same way as text messages appear.

For instance:
- Order placed
- Order accepted by the restaurant
- Your order is being prepared
The delivery agent has arrived at the restaurant
- Your order is ready
- Delivery person is en route
- Expected to arrive in 15 minutes
- Arrived at your door

Imagine receiving these notifications directly through Truecaller. Not all notifications are provided by Zomato, so Truecaller could take the lead here. This could work similarly with online shopping, where the current delivery status is often not readily available. You usually have to open the app and check where your product currently is, which city it’s in, and when it’s expected to arrive. This would be fascinating.

Here are a few more thoughts and ideas I have for potential features in Truecaller:

1. Gaming Mode:
— It can be quite frustrating for gamers when a call comes in and interrupts their game. Having a dedicated mode to handle this scenario would be highly appreciated.

2. Distinguishing between “Report & Block” and Just “Block”:
— I’ve provided an explanation for this in my previous design, which you can find in my profile.

3. New Call Pop-Up Designs:
— I’ve also introduced some new and modified versions of pop-ups for the Truecaller app in my previous design, which you can check out in my profile.

These features and improvements could greatly enhance the user experience of Truecaller.

Well, congratulations! You’ve reached the end of my spiel. If you’ve actually read through all of this, you must be my biggest fan! I’m considering starting a fan club, and you’d be the president! 😂 Thanks for your dedication! Give yourself a virtual high-five! 🙌😄

Have a good day 😋
